December, 2009–. For more than 35 years, Peachtree Road United Methodist Church's Department of Sports, Recreation and Life Enrichment has provided its services to the Atlanta Community. From youth sports leagues and adult fitness programs, to an extensive array of childrens’ programming and even senior continuing education, PRUMC Sports and Recreation has become a staple of family life in the Buckhead area. |

In 2009 the program had nearly 5,000 registrations. One of its marquee programs is its youth soccer leagues which hosted more than 2,500 participants in 2009. In cooperation with local schools, multiple fields locations serve to accommodate more than 100 teams per season. But the field on the church property, unable to keep up with the program's growth in recent years, has offered limited use and was often an eyesore. "It was time to go to the next level, stated Charles Akin, the program's Director, "With the conversion of our field to artificial turf, its role has changed from one of limited use to one of limitless use."

| " Some fields are only played on a handful of times each year, but we use our field for 10 weeks, 7 days a week , two seasons per year. It is simply not possible to keep a natural turf field looking good under those circumstances. Furthermore, this new field makes a statement to our community about our Church's dedication to children and families in this area. Thanks to the outstanding job that Deluxe Athletics did with the installation of the field - and the logo, our field is now one of the highlites of our campus." In 2010, PRUMC Sports and Recreation estimates that more than 3,000 young soccer players will play on the field. "The most exciting thing to me", states Akin, "is that at the end of the season, it will look as good as it did at the start of the season!" |
